Discover the hidden link between the Nazarenes and the early Mu’min movement. In this deep dive, author Don Peter uses the lens of his thriller DOGMA to strip away 1,000 years of religious bias. Explore how Virtual Reality reveals a “Universal Truth” buried by centuries of political dogma.

Stripping Away 1,000 Years of Bias

What if a thousand years of tradition buried the truth? This is the question that haunts every page of my research. We often assume that history is a straight line. We believe that what we see today is what the founders intended. However, history is usually written by the victors. Consequently, the original message often disappears under layers of political interest.

The Ghosts of Masada

It all started with Masada. This was the apocalyptic continuation of the Roman-Jewish War. In those final days, various factions made their last stand. Pharisees, Sadducees, Zealots, and the Nazarene movement were all present. Or, perhaps we should call them the “last holdouts.”

Before the tragedy at Masada, the region witnessed world-changing events. Two great prophets, John the Baptist and Jesus, were murdered. Following these tragedies, James, the brother of Jesus, took over the leadership of the Nazarene movement. Meanwhile, Paul of Tarsus took a different trajectory. He steered the movement toward something “new” that would eventually reach Rome.

During this same period, the Essenes were hiding their treasures. They tucked away a massive collection of scrolls in the caves of Qumran. Among these documents were the “War Scrolls.” These texts spoke of a climactic battle between the “Sons of Light” and the “Sons of Darkness.” When you read these scrolls, you realize something shocking. The Essenes were likely not the celibate, peaceful, non-violent monks that historians often describe. Instead, they were preparing for a cosmic war.

The Great Escape: Where Did They Go?

Did the tragedy truly end at Masada? In the Gospels, Jesus gave an ample warning. He told his followers to escape to the hills when they saw Jerusalem surrounded. If you look at Matthew 24:16, the instruction is clear. But where did they go?

Many scholars suggest they fled to Petra in the Nabatean deserts. However, this seems unlikely. Petra was too close to the Roman reach. To survive, they needed a place further away. They needed a location unreachable by the “Kittim” (the Roman oppressors). They sought a peaceful oasis paradise, a sort of Middle Eastern Shangri-La.

Could this place have been Yathrib? We know that Jewish asylum seekers settled with established communities in the Arabian Peninsula. Over time, Nazarenism evolved. It became a branch of Pharaic Judaism that kept a secret hope alive. They had not forgotten the prophecy of Jesus regarding the coming of the Paraclete.

The Emergence of the Messenger

Six hundred years later, a new voice emerged in the desert. The descendants of these refugees heard of a messenger in Mecca. This figure fit the prophecies they had guarded for centuries. They discussed these signs with the local inhabitants of Yathrib.

Soon, the people of Yathrib invited this “viceroy.” They offered him and his followers refuge in their oasis. Eventually, they renamed the city Medina. This connection suggests that the “Believers’ Movement” did not appear in a vacuum. It was the continuation of a much older story.

Modern people often make massive assumptions about this era. They picture the early followers of Muhammad as dogmatic, sword-wielding warriors. They imagine a world where people had to convert or die. Simultaneously, they imagine a blonde, blue-eyed Jesus who spent his time proving his divinity to skeptics.

But what if both images are complete fabrications? What if the “Universal Truth” that united early believers was scrubbed from our history books? This investigation forms the core of my new book, DOGMA. In this story, history and technology collide to reveal the hidden past.

The Virtual Reality Shortcut to the Truth

I find it difficult to relay such a challenging topic through dry, academic prose. Therefore, I used a science-fiction thriller to break the mold. In my book DOGMA, I introduce the Virtual Reality Simulator (VRS).

This technology allows my characters, Dr. Samuel Carter and Dr. Iqbal Malik, to step through the veil of time. They don’t just read history; they witness it. They travel back to the dusty streets of 1st-century Jerusalem. They also visit 7th-century Arabia. They see the birth of the world’s two largest religions with their own eyes.

What they discover shatters every modern preconception. They realize that our modern labels are the biggest barriers to understanding God.

Before “Christianity” and “Islam”

Through the VRS, the doctors found that modern labels did not exist at the start. In the early days, the followers of Jesus didn’t call themselves “Christians.” Instead, they identified as “The Way.” In Aramaic, this was Urha. This term describes a path of conduct rather than a brand of religion.

They were a sect focused on a specific way of living in a covenant with God. There is profound historical evidence that James, the Brother of Jesus, led this “Nazarene” movement. His focus on Law and Spirit would look alien to a modern churchgoer. He was not starting a new religion; he was fulfilling an ancient one.

The Mu’min: The Forgotten Believers

The shock continues when the VRS takes our characters to the 7th century. The early followers of Muhammad never called themselves “Muslims” in the modern sense. The Quran almost exclusively addresses them as Mu’min—the Believers.

The Quranic message was originally a “Believers’ Movement.” It was an ecumenical, universal call to anyone who sought the One God. For instance, look at Surah Al-Baqarah (2:62). This verse provides the ultimate “Universalist” proof:

“Indeed, those who believed and those who were Jews or Christians or Sabeans—those [among them] who believed in Allah and the Last Day and did righteousness—will have their reward with their Lord…”

This verse reveals a truth so universal that even Enlightenment thinkers would have recognized it. People like Thomas Jefferson and Voltaire were Deists. They believed in a Grand Architect and a moral code. They saw in the original texts a religion of reason. This was long before “Priestcraft” and political dogmas twisted the message into a tool for control.

The Linguistic Bridge: Urha and Ad-Deen

As Malik and Carter dig deeper into the simulation, they find linguistic fossils. What if the “Nazarene” are synonymous with the “Mu’min”?
In Aramaic, the word for “The Way” is Urha. Interestingly, this concept mirrors the Chinese Zen concepts of Yin and Yang. Even more shocking is the connection to the Quranic word Ad-Deen. While we translate this as “religion” today, it originally meant a “transaction” or a “way of life.”

We are living in a world divided by labels. However, the original founders never used these tribes as weapons. By stripping away the bias, we find that the “Universal Truth” wasn’t about belonging to a specific group. It was about belonging to “The Way.”

Why DOGMA Matters Today

Why did I choose to write this as a thriller? Because the truth is dangerous. In the world of DOGMA, some organizations want to keep these secrets buried. They prefer a world divided by labels. Conflict is profitable, but the “Universal Truth” is liberating.

Through the eyes of my characters, we see that history is like a dunghill covering a field of diamonds. We have spent 1,000 years looking at the dirt. Now, it is time to start digging for the gems.

If we can look past the bias of the Middle Ages, we might find a bridge. We might discover that the “Nazarene” and the “Mu’min” were walking the same path. They were seeking the same God through the same “Way.”

Conclusion: Step Into the Simulator

My book DOGMA is more than just a story about Dr. Carter and Dr. Malik. It is an invitation for you to question everything you know. Whether you are a believer, a skeptic, or a seeker, the evidence is waiting.

We must strip away the layers of tradition. We must challenge the narratives created by empires. Only then can we see the “Universal Truth” that once united the desert sands and the city streets. The Virtual Reality Simulator is open. Are you ready to see the truth?
