Is the universe a cosmic accident or a deliberate design? From the staggering mathematical odds of our existence to the “Mu’min” miracles of the 7th century, researcher Don Peter explores the evidence for a Divine Force. Discover why the crossroads of history and science point to something beyond chance.

The Investigator’s Lens: Lee Strobel

When exploring the question of God, I often turn to Lee Strobel. He is a former legal editor for the Chicago Tribune. Strobel approached faith like a skeptical lawyer. He wanted to prove his conviction beyond a reasonable doubt.

Strobel was once a staunch atheist. He used his investigative skills to “debunk” Christianity. However, the evidence he found changed his life. To me, his work offers universal truths. Anyone can appreciate his logic, regardless of their specific faith. Strobel famously stated: “I’ve spent my career investigating evidence. And the evidence for a Creator is more compelling today than ever before.”

In his book, The Case for a Creator, he focuses on several “pillars” of evidence. Let’s look at three primary arguments.
Three Pillars of Scientific Evidence

1. The Cosmological Argument

Strobel leans on the “Kalam” cosmological argument. He argues that science now aligns with theology. Both prove the universe had a beginning. The logic follows that whatever begins to exist must have a cause. The universe began to exist at the Big Bang. Therefore, the universe must have a cause. This cause must be “uncaused,” timeless, immaterial, and unimaginably powerful attributes that align perfectly with the definition of God.

2. The Anthropic Principle

Strobel interviews physicists who study fundamental constants. These include gravity and the expansion rate of the universe. These settings are balanced on a “razor’s edge.” Imagine dozens of dials; if you alter any setting by a fraction, life vanishes. Strobel argues this isn’t “luck,” but evidence of a “Designer” who fine-tuned the machine of the universe for human life.

3. The Biological Argument

Strobel looks at the digital code inside living cells. DNA is not just a chemical; it is an instructional manual. Information always traces back to an intelligent mind. Random processes do not create complex languages. Scientists like Roger Penrose argue the universe is structured for life. This is the observation that our world supports technological, carbon-based life.

The Rare Earth: A System of Parameters

Many scientists and “Intelligent Design” proponents argue that the universe is not just a random accident, but a system with “fine-tuned” parameters. This is often called the Anthropic Principle: the observation that the universe appears to be specifically structured to support technological, carbon-based life.

The Goldilocks Zone: Our Precise Orbit

The distance between Earth and the Sun is critical. Our average distance is 150 million kilometers. If this varied, habitability would collapse. 10% closer, and oceans would evaporate into a scorched wasteland like Venus. 10% farther, and carbon dioxide would freeze, turning Earth into an ice ball like Mars. Earth occupies a narrow “Habitable Zone.” Many argue this is too precise for a coincidence.

The Magnetic Invisible Shield

Earth has a powerful magnetosphere. Our spinning liquid iron core generates this field. Life would be impossible without it. The Sun blasts out deadly “solar wind,” but our magnetic field deflects these particles. Without this shield, the wind would strip away our atmosphere. This is exactly what happened to Mars. Our “dynamo” core is a necessary design feature.

Jupiter: Our Cosmic Vacuum Cleaner

In the “Design” argument, Jupiter is our “Big Brother.” Its massive gravity acts as a “gravitational sink.” Jupiter attracts or deflects dangerous comets. In 1994, scientists watched Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 hit Jupiter. Without Jupiter, extinction-level impacts would happen every few centuries instead of every few million years. This specific arrangement protects our rocky planet.

Galactic Placement and Protection

The Rare Earth Hypothesis

Scientists Peter Ward and Donald Brownlee proposed this idea. They combine the right distance, moon, and shields. The statistical probability of these occurring at once is extremely low. This points toward an “Artisan” rather than an “Accident.” Our location in the Milky Way also matters. We live in the Orion Arm.

Avoiding the Galactic Death Zones

The galactic center is a “death zone” with lethal radiation and massive black holes. The outer edges are “metal-poor,” lacking elements like carbon and iron to form rocky planets. Our position is also dust-free. This acts like a “window,” allowing us to see the rest of the universe.

The Heliosphere: A Cosmic Bubble

The Sun creates a massive magnetic “bubble” called the Heliosphere. Space is filled with high-energy Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCRs). These are “cosmic bullets” that shred DNA. The solar wind creates a boundary called the Heliopause. This bubble deflects 70% to 90% of dangerous radiation. Without this shield, our planet would be overwhelmed.

The Quranic Proofs and DOGMA Scriptural Observations

The Quran often appeals to reason and observation. These verses align with modern scientific discoveries.

Surah Al-Anbiya (21:30)

Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, and We separated them and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?

The Big Bang Connection: The phrase “joined entity” (in Arabic: ratq) followed by “separated them” (fataq) is often cited by researchers as a direct reference to the singularity before the expansion of the universe.
The Biological Link: The second half of the verse mentions that every living thing is made from water. This ties perfectly the “Rare Earth” section where we discussed the Goldilocks Zone and why liquid water is the “Fine-Tuned” requirement for life.

Surah Adh-Dhariyat (51:47)

And the heaven We built with Our own powers (strength) and indeed We go on expanding it.

The “Expanding” Miracle: The Arabic word used is “musi’un” (the expanders). In the 7th century, the concept of a static universe was the standard belief. It wasn’t until Edwin Hubble in 1929 that science confirmed the universe is actually stretching.
This connects perfectly to the Cosmological Argument. It suggests that the “Uncaused Cause” (the Power) is what initiated the building process.

Surah Al-Mulk (67:3-4)

[He] who created seven heavens in layers. You do not see in the creation of the Most Merciful any inconsistency. So return [your] vision [to the sky]; do you see any breaks? Then return [your] vision twice again. [Your] vision will return to you humbled and fatigued while it is expended.

The Layered Structure: This aligns with the Heliosphere and the Magnetosphere. The universe isn’t just empty space; it’s a system of protective “layers” (the seven heavens) that keep us alive.

The “Flawless” Design: The word “inconsistency” (or tafawut) is the 7th-century way of describing the Fine-Tuning mentioned. It’s a challenge to find a single “break” in the mathematical laws of physics.

The Fatigue of the Eye: This is my favorite. It describes the exact feeling a scientist or researcher gets when looking into the deep Milky Way (like the man in my featured image!). The more we look, the more our human minds are “fatigued” by the sheer scale and complexity of it all.

The DOGMA Connection: Historical Miracles

My book, DOGMA, explores these themes in history. We see “divine intervention” in human events. Alexander the Great wore the “Horns of Amun,” and his impossible conquests shifted the Levant’s religious history. Similarly, the Mu’min, a small group of believers, displaced the Roman and Persian superpowers. This defies conventional military logic. Was it mere luck? Or was a “Force” (Malaika) at work?

Conclusion: The Right to Judge

The data is now on the table. You can see a Divine Hand or extraordinary coincidences. That choice is yours. The same conditions that make Earth habitable also make the universe measurable. We live in the one place where we can both survive and do science. This suggests a “purposeful” placement.

However, faith cannot be forced. Every individual has the right to their opinion. My role is to show you the evidence. You must judge the “Force” for yourself.
